Sarah in Canadian Gardening
I'm pleased to say that an article I wrote about four years ago has finally been published in the current (May) issue of Canadian Gardening. It's been so worked over by now that I feel the life has gone out of it a bit, but I continue to be inspired by the topic: the Purdon Conservation Area near Perth, Ontario, which has Canada's largest colony of the native wildflower known as the Showy Lady's Slipper. (They bloom in late June.) It's a nice story: the land was owned by a boatbuilder named Joe Purdon, who was passionate about helping the flowers to thrive, and he bequeathed quite a treasure to the local nature conservancy when he died.
I took this picture, which really doesn't do the place justice.
